Aerial yoga uses a hammock or sling as a prop. This extra support allows us to bring more awareness to our breath and our movements. Aerial yoga allows for certain yoga postures to be accessible that may not be possible with just a yoga mat (e.g. inversions, learning to pull yourself up). Aerial yoga is a combination of traditional yoga, pilates, and an adaptation of TRX. 

Aerial arts are the practice of performing acrobatics using the hammock/sling (or lyra) as an apparatus to perform tricks or dance routines. Aerial arts practices are inspired by dance, gymnastics, acrobatics, and the circus arts.

If you are brand new to aerial you must start with an Aerial Fundamentals workshop. This is for your safety and comfort level when you attend other classes on the schedule. You will then be familiar using the aerial hammock as a yoga prop and an aerial arts apparatus;  including terminology, wrist wraps, hammock placement, inversions, and safety practices. Please visit the “Events” tab for workshop dates/times and to sign up.

Classes such as Aerial Gentle, Aerial Deep Stretch and Restore, or Aerial Strength and Tone are at a slower pace or the hammock is at a lower setting—fundamentals is not required for these classes but still suggested. However, if you’d like to attend an Aerial Flow, Aerial Core, or any of our aerial arts classes you are required to take the Aerial Fundamentals workshop.

Once you have completed the Aerial Fundamentals workshop you may continue on to our aerial arts classes (Intro to Flips & Tricks, Aerial Transitions, Aerial Dance, Aerial Skills) at the teacher’s discretion.

Please email us if our workshop days/times are not possible with your schedule so that we can make arrangements for you.

If you have prior experience with aerial yoga you may be able to bypass the fundamentals workshop(s). Please call or email us so we can evaluate your experience level.

Our Pole Fundamentals classes/workshops are the perfect place to start if you are new to pole fitness.

Any rope wall on the schedule is okay to start with if you are new to this type of yoga practice. Our experienced teachers structure the class to accommodate each skill level; offering different options for each pose.

Flying Buddha offers classes and workshops that cater to kids ages 6 to 11 and older. We recommend starting with a Kids Fundamentals workshop where we will introduce (or remind) students how to properly and safely use the aerial hammock to get their practice going! We will go over basic wraps, hangs and shapes, preparing them for other classes on the schedule.

We recommend you sign up online to guarantee your spot. Choose a class here. You’ll be directed to our scheduling system, where you can reserve your class. If you don’t already have an account, you’ll be prompted to create one.

For some of our classes we offer both a virtual and in-studio format, please be sure to sign up for the correct format.

Register for a class here at least one hour prior to class if possible. We will send you an email with instructions and a link to access your Zoom class 5 minutes before start. If you have not received your Zoom link by the start of class please email: info@flyingbuddhastudio.com.  If you experience any technical difficulties please browse Zoom’s support page or watch this short video on how to join a Zoom meeting. Lastly, if you were registered and had technical difficulties making it impossible for you to join the class or workshop—you will not be charged. In cases like this, please contact us.

If you do not have a yoga mat we do have a limited number of yoga mats available for rent at the studio for $3.00. We also have durable, high quality, and machine washable mats for purchase. Otherwise, if you have a yoga mat, please bring it to your aerial or mat yoga class (no need for pole fitness classes).

If you do not have an aerial hammock, we offer either a hammock rental for $10 to cover the costs of properly sanitizing our hammocks after each use or the option to purchase your own hammock (payment plans are available). If you are bringing your own hammock that was not purchased at our studio please let your instructor know so they can evaluate the equipment for safety. Only climbing grade equipment may be used in our studio.

If you’re reading this, the answer is an emphatic no! For our hammocks the suspension system was designed by a certified mechanical engineer and can support over 6,000 pounds. Our pole equipment is also certified and is designed for men and women of all ages, sizes, shapes, and levels.

We have a full spectrum of aerial classes (aerial yoga to aerial arts). If you are brand new to the aerial practice we highly suggest starting with an Aerial Fundamentals workshop then continuing on to our Aerial Yoga classes (i.e. Strength & Tone, Gentle, Flow, Core, Core/Flow). Once you have developed the strength, core, and understanding of the movements, placement of the fabric, and safety practices you may be ready to try our Aerial Arts classes (i.e. Intro to Flips & Tricks, Skills, Transitions, Aerial Dance).

Each class description also includes a suggested experience level (beginner/intermediate/advanced) with Aerial Yoga and Aerial Arts. Flying Buddha recognizes that everyone is unique in their abilities and where they are in their health and fitness journey. We encourage you to contact us so we can get to know you and make recommendations based on your needs and goals.

Currently our larger aerial room can accommodate up to 12 students for aerial, lyra, and special classes/workshops and 6 students for our rope wall classes. Our smaller multipurpose room can accommodate 5 students for pole classes and 6 students for special classes/workshops. For a guaranteed spot, please sign up ahead of time!

Whatever you feel comfortable in! For aerial classes we suggest wearing a form-fitting shirt that covers your underarms and form-fitting pants that cover your knees.

For pole classes, beginners can wear long leggings; 3/4 leggings are also nice so you have a little skin to grip. You can also feel free to wear knee socks, and/or knee pads for floorwork. You should not wear any lotion on your hands and legs. Sweating will release the lotion back to the surface and you will be sliding off the pole.

Be sure you have a safe place for your rings, bracelets, and valuables!

There is Acqua Panna and San Pellegrino available for purchase in the studio and a water dispenser in the studio. Otherwise please bring your own water bottle or you can purchase one from us!

We offer classes for kids ages 6 -11 and older. We recommend that a caregiver or parent attend the class for 15 minutes for kids ages 6-10 to ensure they have someone to accompany them to the bathroom and to make sure they are safely sized for their hammock. For kids age 11 and older, no parent or caregiver needs to be present. For kids of any age, no previous experience is necessary!

Yes! We have home aerial hammock kits for purchase. Each kit includes two daisy chains, two carabiners, a Flying Buddha bag, and hammock. The hammock fabric is 6 yards, if you have higher ceilings than a standard 8 foot ceiling please let us know we can let you know how many additional yards we recommend. You will need to purchase a free standing rig or find a contractor who can safely rig your hammock according to your specific needs. We are happy to share what we know about this process. The short answer is no, you don’t need any special equipment to practice yoga at home except for a yoga mat. A yoga mat provides grip and prevents your hands and feet from sliding as you practice different poses. For yoga practices that include the use of props such as blankets, bolsters, blocks, and/or straps, you have options: 1) Your teacher can suggest ways to modify the practice without the use of props. 2) There are many household items you can use in place of props: pillow(s) instead of a bolster; a belt or tie instead of a strap; a blanket from home; or a stack of books instead of a block. 3) Lastly, if you’d like to purchase a mat or props we got you covered! We offer standard sized high quality, durable yoga mats and FBS home yoga kits which includes one blanket, two blocks, and a strap. To place an order contact us.
